Steak Stealing Suspect Turns Himself In to Smithfield Police
The following arrest information was provided by the Smithfield Police department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

On Aug. 3, at about 7:30 p.m., Smithfield Police officers were called to Dave's Marketplace for a report of a man stealing about five steaks from the market.
According to the police report, the five steaks were worth approximately $13.73 each. Also reported stolen were four pounds of mussels worth $5.98.
Once on scene, Smithfield Police Lt. Dennis Paul spoke with the manager, and employees, identifying the suspected thief as Leart Mezini, 153 Jenckes Hill Road, Lincoln, RI. Paul contacted Lincoln Police to request their help contacting Mezini at about 7:35 p.m., according to a police report.
At about 8:25 p.m., Mezini's lawyer contacted Smithfield Police Headquarters at 215 Pleasant View Ave., stating that Mezini would turn himself in at the station, but would not make a statement to police about the incident. Mezini arrived to turn himself in at 9 p.m.
Mezini was processed and released with a District Court summons to answer a charge of misdemeanor shoplifting. He was arraigned on Aug. 20, and has been scheduled for a pre-trial conference Oct. 1.
