Tiverton Contractor Charged With Stealing $6,000 In Materials

A Tiverton contractor was charged with stealing $6,000 worth of construction materials from a client's home.

A Tiverton contractor is facing felony larceny charges after a customer accused him of taking more than $6,000 worth of construction materials from her home.

Arthur Smith Sr., 69, of 3626 Main Road, Tiverton, was arrested on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 11:39 a.m. and charged with felony larceny of more than $1,500. According to reports, one of Smith's client's complained to police that Smith stole thousands of dollars of construction-type supplies from her East Road residence.

The complainant alleged Smith stole at least $6,000 in sheet metal, wood, screws and other supplies. Tiverton Police conducted an investigation and spoke with other witnesses. A warrant was then issued for Smith's arrest. Police arrested Smith at his home on Dec. 30. He was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace that same day and released on personal recognizance.
