Tiverton Rape Suspect Due in Court after Indictment

NEWPORT, Ri—A 27-year-old Newport man has been indicted by the Newport County Grand Jury on domestic rape and simple assault charges.

Jaron Monroe, 27, of 3 Hall Ave., Newport, was indicted on Wednesday and ordered held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions pending his arraignment Thursday in Newport County Superior Court.

Monroe allegedly sexually and physically assaulted a woman with whom he was in a relationship on or about Feb. 27 of this year, according to Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin. Additionally, on March 19, he allegedly "obstructed the judicial system," Kilmartin said.

The incidents occured in Tiverton and Tiverton police arrested Monroe on Feb. 27, according to court records.

Monroe is facing three counts of first-degree domestic sexual assault, one count of domestic simple assault and a count of obstruction.

Court records show the state police arrested Monroe on April 27 for violating a no-contact order.

Monroe has had several run-ins with the law over the years, including a 2010 conviction for narcotics possession that landed him a five-year suspended sentence. In 2007, he was convicted of obtaining money under false pretenses and accessing a computer for the purposes of committing fraud. The sentence was deferred in that case.

Court records show Monroe, who refers to himself as "The Wolf of Thames Street" on social media, has also been convicted of simple assault and twice for disorderly conduct since 2010.
