Groom Of Bride Killed On Wedding Night In SC Files Wrongful Death Suit

The bride, Samantha Miller, 34, was killed on her wedding night in South Carolina in April when her golf cart was hit by a drunk driver.

SOUTH CAROLINA - The husband of a bride killed in a crash last month as she was leaving their wedding reception in Folly Beach has filed a wrongful death lawsuit Wednesday against the accused drunk driver and several local bars and restaurants, according to a Good Morning America report.

The bride, Samantha Miller, 34, from Charlotte, North Carolina, was killed when a woman, Jamie Lee Komoroski, 25, briefly hit the breaks on her rental car, which was going more than double the speed limit before it hit the golf cart in which the newlyweds were riding, officials said. Three others in the golf cart, including the groom Aric Hutchinson, were also injured, according to officials.

The lawsuit states that on the night of the crash, “Despite being noticeably and visibly intoxicated at each of these establishments, Jaime Komoroski continued to be served, provided, and/or allowed to consume additional alcohol" at multiple bars and restaurants, ABC News reported.

Komoroski's employer and supervisor were also named in the lawsuit and are accused of "pressuring" her to attend a function and consume "excessive amounts of alcoholic beverages" on the night of the crash.

Speaking for the first time in the wake of Miller's death, Hutchinson told Good Morning America that he's still trying to wrap his head around the tragedy. He said that he has no memory of the crash.

"That night, going from an all-time high to an all-time low, it's pretty rough to try to comprehend," Hutchinson said. "I do remember the last thing I remember her saying was she wanted the night to never end."

The next thing Hutchinson remembers is waking up in the hospital and asking his mother, "Where's Sam?"

"That's when [my mother] told me there's an incident and that Sam didn't make it," he said.

According to a GoFundMe set up by Hutchinson's mother, Hutchinson broke both legs, parts of his face and his back, and suffered brain bleeds, among other injuries, in the crash. The two others in the golf cart suffered severe road rash and open wounds, WCIV reported.

Komoroski was charged with one count of reckless homicide and three counts of felony DUI resulting in great bodily harm, online court records show.

Data from Komoroski's vehicle indicated she was traveling around 65 miles per hour, officials said. The speed limit on the island near Charleston is 25 miles per hour.

In his interview, Hutchinson said that he is not ready to speak directly to Komoroski.

"I can't right now," he said. "I'd like to. I mean, she stole an amazing human being that should not have been taken."
