Man charged with attempted murder in Anderson Co. shooting (wspa.com) — A man from Anderson has been charged after a Sunday night shooting in Pendleton left another person in critical condition, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say an argument on Bickford Circle escalated into multiple gunshots, and the suspect was arrested about 40 minutes later. The victim was airlifted to a Greenville hospital as the investigation continues.
   

2. Upstate church closes daycare after teacher fired for tying toddler to chair (wistv.com) — Families in Anderson should know that New Prospect Baptist Church is closing its weekday preschool on Jan. 30 after previously firing a teacher seen tying a child to a chair. Church leaders say rising operational and financial demands for licensed childcare drove the decision and promise clear communication and support for affected families during the 45-day transition period.
   

3. Anderson County explores new budget strategies after sales tax failure (wspa.com) — Anderson County leaders are reworking next year’s budget after voters again rejected a 1% sales tax that would have funded road improvements. With population and industrial jobs growing, council is weighing new land-use rules and a masquerading ordinance, with key public meetings at the Anderson Civic Center and Historic Courthouse where residents can speak up.
   

4. Five 2026 key Upstate SC construction projects to watch: Looking ahead (independentmail.com) — Anderson School District Four’s new Pendleton High School is moving ahead, with leaders expecting the larger, tech-upgraded campus to open for the 2026–27 school year and free the current building for Riverside Middle. It’s one of several major Upstate projects, alongside big government, recreation, and redevelopment efforts in Greenville, Spartanburg, and Greer that could shape commuting, jobs, and regional amenities for Anderson residents.
   

5. Man found along Upstate roadway died after crash, coroner says (wyff4.com) — Anderson County officials say a man found dead off Welcome Road on Friday morning died from blunt abdominal trauma suffered in a car crash days earlier. Investigators believe 36-year-old Jody Mason of Easley wrecked on Welcome Road, walked away before troopers arrived, and was later discovered in nearby woods after being reported missing.
