Columbia Streets, Parks to Get Hundreds More Security Cameras
The Columbia Police Department came up with a plan that calls for up to 800 more cameras, according to records obtained by The State.
Hundreds more security cameras will be installed at major intersections and at parks in Columbia, according to reports.
Columbia City Council voted Wednesday to buy 800 cameras, according to a report in The State. The new cameras will cost the city $600,000 and about $8,000 per month to operate.
The Columbia Police Department wants the new cameras installed closer to ground level to capture faces and license plate numbers, according to a report in The State. The department proposes installing cameras at 25 intersections and at 24 parks in Columbia.

Those intersections include Harbison Boulevard and Columbiana Drive, Garners Ferry and Leesburg roads, Two Notch Road and Beltline Boulevard, Forest Drive and Percival Road and Assembly and Gervais Streets, according to The State.
