Columbia Starbucks workers join nationwide strike as union, coffee chain fight over contract (postandcourier.com) — Unionized baristas at Columbia’s Millwood Avenue Starbucks shut down their store Dec. 18 and joined a nationwide strike over pay, hours, and a stalled contract. Workers plan to resume picketing Dec. 19, as the national union continues accusing Starbucks of resisting a contract at unionized locations in Columbia and nearby Lexington.
   

2. Richland Library opens interactive learning space for babies and toddlers (wltx.com) — Families with babies and toddlers now have a new interactive learning wall at Richland Library’s Main location on Assembly Street in downtown Columbia. The space offers rotating sensory panels, stackable toys, and easy-to-reach books, all anchored by a colorful Anita Lobel mural to encourage playful early learning.
   

3. Gamecock player hit by Texas A&M gameday cop files criminal complaint (postandcourier.com) — From Columbia, a South Carolina Gamecock football player, Oscar Adaway, has filed a criminal complaint and is seeking assault charges against a Texas state trooper who made contact with him during November’s game at Texas A&M. Adaway, who has consulted a USC sports psychiatrist, says the incident has affected his sleep and wants a direct apology from the officer as Texas authorities weigh possible charges.
   

4. How one of the nations major superstores deals with the holiday rush (wach.com) — Holiday shoppers around Columbia are leaning on the Lexington Walmart’s pickup and delivery team, which is handling up to 1,000 orders a day from its Sunset Boulevard location. Staff start before dawn to pull groceries, gifts, and holiday clothing, coordinating schedules weeks in advance to keep orders moving right up until 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
