Coroner Identifies Man Who Hanged Himself in Richland County Cell

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has identified a man who hanged himself Friday at county court building.

Robin O. Mock, 50, died after he hanged himself in a holding cell at the traffic court building on Huger Street in Columbia, Watts said.

Mock, who had no known address, died at Palmetto Health Richland. 

Watts said Mock used his pants to fashion a ligature.

According to a report from The State (subscription required), the man was arrested for disorderly conduct. 

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the incident at the request of the Richland County Sherriff’s Department.
