Easley Amphitheater Nears Completion

The Easley Tax, Income and Finance Committee held a meeting Thursday morning to discuss the progress of city projects including the Market Square Amphitheater.

The City of Easley Tax, Income and Finance Committee met Thursday morning to review progress on city projects including the Market Square Amphitheater which is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Easley Building Official Tommy Holcombe told the committee that the new amphitheater is on schedule to be completed sometime before Aug. 27 when the city has two events scheduled to take place at Market Square.

"Everything is on schedule and I don't foresee any problems," Holcombe said. "That's not to say there won't be a few punch list items, but it will be ready to be used on the 27th for the city's water event."

The new amphitheater is scheduled to be a meeting spot for the start of the Mission Action Challenge Ride which begins at 7:30 a.m. at Old Market Square. The ride is a fundraiser for Hope Unlimited, a charity that does missionary work in Brazil, according to their website.

"The back-to-school Water Blast is on the 27th," said Scott Buckhiester of DunBurks Premier Events. DunBurks is the official event planner for the city of Easley.

"We'll bring in huge inflatable water rides and surround the amphitheater," Buckhiester said. The Water Blast will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 27

Mayor Larry Bagwell suggested the city plan an opening event once the amphitheater is completed, no plans have been made at this point.

"As far as any other future projects I don't think, financially, we could take a big step," Bagwell said.

Bagwell said the new amphitheater will be a great asset for the city, providing a permanent structure for future events.
