Barbecue Competition Raises Money for PCCA

Cook-off begins at 11am today in Old Market Square.

Old Market Square was filled with the delightful smell of chicken wings cooking as teams squared off in a competition as part of this weekend's Pig Pickin' For the Pickens County Cancer Association.

The smell was intoxicating - and for the members of Euphoria, distracting, as they set the stage for their concert at the amphitheater.

A common sight was people stopping what they were doing to sniff the air.

Saturday's event is a South Carolina Barbeque Association sanctioned cook-off.

Teams from the tri-state area have been invited to participate, which in turn allows them to earn points toward the state title.

Many teams will be vying to be crowned the winner, including the top three teams from last year's competition: Nards Barbecue, the Bold Branch BBQ Boys and Fluff Smoakin' Butts.

Attendees will get a free concert when they purchase admission for Saturday's events.

The Derrick Dorsey Band will perform from 11am – 4pm during the BBQ cook-off.
