UPDATE: Green Wave's Smith Resigns as Head Coach

Smith has been named the head coach at at Clover High School.

Green Wave football head coach Chad Smith has been named to the same position at Clover High School in Clover, SC.

Smith tendered his resignation to the School District of Pickens County Monday.

“I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with Chad,” said EHS athletic director, Chris Carter. “He is a great young football coach but even a better person. We had three wonderful seasons under his leadership and it is hard to realize a future without him. I wish him all the best life has to offer. He is a dear friend and I will truly miss him.”

Last season, Smith led the Green Wave to a 9-3 season.

It's a sad day for the Easley High School football team and Green Wave fans.

The School District of Pickens County is expected to announce later today that head football coach Chad Smith is stepping down.

A spokesman for the district said a statement would be released around 2 p.m.

Patch has been told that Smith broke the news to his team this morning that he would not return to the school as a coach in the fall.

Smith, who was named the head coach in January 2010, has compiled a 29-9 record resulting in three consecutive playoff appearances.

A 1997 graduate of Pickens High School, Smith went on to play football at Concord College in West Virginia.
