Coroner Identifies Friday Morning Crash Victim

The wreck happened at the 16 milemarker on Highway 123 in Pickens County this morning.

Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley has released the name of the man killed in a single-vehicle accident this morning.

James Allen Carroll, 52, of 253 Sanders Road, Liberty, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened near the mile 16 marker on Highway 123.

Kelley says it appears that Carroll lost control of a F250 pickup on the icy highway. Carroll was not wearing a seat belt, she said.

Carroll's son, a passenger in the truck, was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital and "appears to be okay," Kelley said.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow. The Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that left one person dead and another injured Friday morning.

The wreck happened about 11:02 a.m. on Highway 123, near the 16 mile marker.

Troopers said the driver of a 2003 F250 pick-up truck was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle has been transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Troopers said the vehicle was traveling north on Highway 123 when the driver lost control, ran off the right side of the road and the vehicle overturned.

The name of the driver will be released by the Pickens County Coroner's Office pending next of kin notification.
