Breakfast With Sen. Jim DeMint? That'll Be $2,000

Junior Senator is one of the many legislators raising money at every opportunity.

It's no secret that money is more important to being successful in politics than it's ever been. Some politicians make no secret of their distaste with having to raise money at every opportunity. Those opportunities also, apparently, include breakfast.

According to the Sunlight Foundation, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint will be appearing at a breakfast on Thursday in Washington, DC, that requires a donation of $2,000 to attend.

The previous evening DeMint will be at a dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Washington hosted by Gail McKinnon, Rachel Pearson and John Lively. Tickets for the dinner are $2,500. McKinnon is the Executive Vice President and Chief Government Relations Officer for Time Warner Cable and Pearson is a Beltway fundraiser and consultant.

The events are organized by The Gula Graham Group, one of the premier fundraising concerns in the country.

DeMint is hardly the only politician raising funds through private events, as the Sunlight Foundation’s calendar indicates. Sen. Lindsey Graham is holding an outing at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island Golf Resort for a fee of $2,500 per person.

Last month, Patch noted that DeMint had not met with constituents in a town hall or open house setting since April.
