City Council Brings Up Hospitality Tax Thursday

Controversial tax increase has public hearing during special meeting Thursday.

Goose Creek City Council will convene for a special meeting 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the municipal center.

The only item on the agenda is a public hearing for the proposed 2 percent hospitality tax that raised the ire of many from the public during last month's City Council meeting.

The proposed Hospitality Tax, imposed on prepared food and beverages, would create a separate fund that would go toward driving tourism to the city. Tax rate in the city is currently 8 percent. Goose Creek is one of the only municipalities in the area without a Hospitality Tax.
