GCPD on Motorcyclist Appearing to Outrun Police: 'Taking Life Into His Own Hands'

Goose Creek Police weighed in on the motorcyclist known only by his YouTube user name "Tyler D," who appeared to be speeding away in a helmet-cam video he posted earlier this month: there isn't much in the video that shows the police trying to pull him over, and he's taking his life into his own hands, according to PIO Capt. John Grainger.

"It's the rage nowadays to show off and put it on the web ... It appears to be a motorcyclist drivng recklessly. He's taking his life into his own hands," Grainger said. "I researched the last year of our records and we don't have any (recorded) motorcycle pursuits ... There's nothing there (in the video) that tells me that the police officer tried to pull the motorcyclist over."

Grainger said Goose Creek Police have a limited pursuit policy, where the police will not pursue a fleeing suspect for a minor traffic violation.

It is unclear in the video whether or not the police gave chase, or if the motorcyclist reached high rates of speed or if the video was manipulated. Grainger said that police would not spend time actively investigating the video or pursuing charges against Tyler D.
