Six adults and four children in two separate residential fires received American Red Cross assistance Saturday evening after emergency personnel arrived at the scene and spoke with the victims.  Pine Ridge, Summerville and Whitesville Fire Departments responded to early Saturday evening blazes affecting two Berkeley County families in Sangaree and Moncks Corner, and the Red Cross met the families’ immediate emergency needs thereafter.
Four adults and three children experienced major fire damage to their home early this evening in Berkeley County and emergency personnel contacted the Red Cross for assistance. Disaster-trained Red Cross volunteers assessed the fire damage at the scene, providing the family lodging and food to meet their needs.

Two Berkeley County adults and a child also were displaced early this evening by a home fire that fire officials indicated destroyed their home. Responding to the scene, volunteers for the American Red Cross provided the family immediate shelter and funds for food and clothing to replace those essentials destroyed by the flames.Â
On average the American Red Cross, Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours. Since January 1, 2013, the Palmetto SC Region has responded to the needs of 918 families and 2,840 individuals affected by disaster.
