The foundation is also seeking nominations from Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper residents for its 2026 Community Impact Award, which includes a $10,000 grant for the winner’s chosen local nonprofit, while other Lowcountry news includes major statewide grants and a beloved coroner’s passing.

Two-story house fire displaces Hilton Head Island family (wjcl.com) — A two-story home on Marshland Road in Hilton Head Island was heavily damaged by fire Sunday morning, displacing a local family but causing no injuries. Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue crews battled flames on both floors, rescued three animals, and turned the family over to Red Cross support while investigators work to determine what sparked the blaze.

'I was dying': Hilton Head Island woman seeks answers after chemical attack (wyff4.com) — A Hilton Head Island woman is still searching for justice a year after she was doused with chemicals and robbed while driving home from a bank on Whooping Crane Way. She’s coping with lasting physical and emotional scars, ongoing medical treatment, and frustration over the stalled investigation, and is urging anyone with information to come forward as deputies review her case.
   

4. Beaufort Memorial Hospital cited by feds after woman gave birth in parking lot (islandpacket.com) — Beaufort Memorial Hospital has been cited by federal regulators after a woman was forced to give birth alone in a car outside its Beaufort campus, prompting new training and staffing changes. The hospital also confirmed its expansion plans include a new emergency and urgent care facility on Hilton Head Island, envisioned as one of the state’s first hybrid centers, which could significantly affect local access to emergency care.
