2 Lexington One Teachers Win Innovator Awards
A teacher from Meadow Glen Elementary and another teacher from Lexington Elementary both won first place in the Teacher Innovator Awards.
Two Lexington One teachers were recently recognized for using digital media in new and unique ways to improve their students' learning.
Lori Russell, a reading teacher for grades K through 2 at Meadow Glen Elementary School, won first place in the Teacher Innovator Awards for her "Word Works."
Students use the Kindle Fire, iPod, iPad, and laptops to practice their word recognition skills while playing games. See Russell's entry here.

Lynn Dempsey, a math teach for grades 3 through 5, also won first place for using technology to hold a mock election.
Dempsey's 4th-grade class created an election ballot using Google docs and then developed a QR code to take "voters" to the ballot. The class hosted the mock election for grades 3 through 5. Students voted using iPads. See Dempsey's entry here.

Russell and Dempsey are two of the 10 first-place winners. In recognition of their efforts, they will each receive a unique week-long “Innovation Immersion Experience” at The Henry Ford from July 27 to Aug. 2, a free online professional development course from PBS TeacherLine, an award plaque and a gift bag from PBS and The Henry Ford.
