Amazon Hiring Hundreds at West Columbia Plant

The company is looking for full-time employees to gather, pack and ship orders.

Online retailer Amazon is hiring hundreds of full-time workers at its distribution center in West Columbia, the company announced Wednesday. 

More than 500 fulfillment assoicates are being hired, according to a post on the Greater Lexington Chamber blog.

Fulfillment associates gather, pack and ship customer orders, according to the job description on the company's website. The job can require shifts of up to 12 hours. The pay starts at $11 per hour. 

Amazon's last hiring spree at the West Columbia distribution center was in July 2012 when the second half of the 1.2 million-square-foot building was completed.

Amazon agreed to reach 2,000 employees by Dec. 31 as part of a sales tax collection exemption state and local officials gave to the company, according to The State. They are "on track" to reach that goal.
