Columbia Woman Killed on Interstate 26

Jacquelyn Burton, 83, lost control of her Toyota Camry and was struck by another vehicle on I-26 in Lexington County.

A Columbia woman died in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 26 Monday afternoon, the Lexington County Coroner’s Office said.

Jacquelyn Burton, 83, lost control of her Toyota Camry and was struck by another vehicle, Coroner Harry Harman said in a release. 

Burton was traveling eastbound in the center lane on I-26 near Highway 378 when she lost control of the vehicle, Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said.

Burton's car spun around and was struck on the driver's side by a 2001 Buick LaSabre driven by 50-year-old Robert Lewandowski, Beres said. 

Both Burton and her passenger was wearing a seatbelt. The passenger was taken to Palmetto Health Richland.

Burton was taken to Lexington Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, Harman said. 

There were two passengers in Lewsandowski's car. Both were take to Palmetto Health Richland. One of the two passengers was wearing a seatbelt.

The conditions of the passengers are not known. 

The accident is being investigated by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
