Report: Man Uses Trash Can to Steal Cigarettes

A man stole cartons of cigarettes from a gas station on Sunset Boulevard Thursday, according to a report.

A man broke into a gas station on Sunset Boulevard early Thursday and got away with a trash can full of cigarette cartons, according to a Lexington Police Department report. 

Surveillance video shows the man looking through the windows of Murphy Express at 4448 Sunset Boulevard around 2:30 a.m., according to the report. He was holding some sort of blunt object in his hand.

The man shattered one of the windows around 2:45 a.m., according to the report. He went into the store, looked around the cigarette counter and then exited.

A few minutes later, he came back in dragging what appeared to be two white trash cans, according to the report. He filled one of them with cartons of cigarettes and then left the store with both trash cans.

Police say it looks like the man was talking on his cell phone the whole time he was taking cigarettes off the shelves.

The black man was wearing a tan jacket, gray pants, brown shoes, a dark-colored sweatshirt and a striped mask, according to the report.
