
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Mauldin by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010. This is the ninth year in a row the city has received the award, The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment.
The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential user groups to read the CAFR. The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, DC.
In response to news of the recognition, Mauldin Mayor Don Godbey said, “Mauldin’s mayors and councils for years focused in being fiscally conservative. This council has a strong commitment to effective fiscal management and I commend our Finance Director Holly Abercrombie and all the staff for their performance in this area and adhering to this philosophy.”

Finance Committee Chairman Michael Reynolds added,” Accountability and transparency are vital ingredients to being good stewards of our taxpayers’ dollars. This award recognizes our successful achievement toward achieving this goal.”
City Administrator Trey Eubanks said,”The standard for the City of Mauldin was set nine years ago when we first obtained this recognition. We intend to continue to achieve this award and demonstrate to our citizens our commitment to transparency and accountability and to being good stewards of our taxpayers’ dollars.”
