Women's Opportunity Award Program Offers Cash Grant, Seeks Applicants

Soroptimist International of Greenville, an organization dedicated to helping improve the lives of women and girls, is seeking applicants for its Soroptimist® Women's Opportunity Award.  The grant is a cash award, not a scholarship, for female heads of household, who are attending, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program, or an undergraduate degree program.  Applicants must also demonstrate financial need.  Past applicants who were not finalists but still meet eligibility requirements may apply.

The Soroptimist® Women's Opportunity Award begins at the Greenville club level, with an award amount of $900.00-$1000.00.  Local winners then become eligible to receive Region level awards – one of five $1000 awards.  In addition, Soroptimist grants three $10,000 finalist awards each year at the Federation level.  Soroptimist Greenville's winners from past years have gone on to win region cash awards.

The name, Soroptimist®, means "best for women."  Soroptimist International of Greenville with more than 59 years of philanthropy to the Upstate of South Carolina joins about 95,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories to contribute time and financial support to community-based projects benefiting women and girls.  The Greenville club supports Greenville Literacy, St. Francis' Festival of Trees, SC Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition, Project Sierra (2007-11), and many other worthy organizations.
