ATF Takes Mauldin Resident Into Custody

Part of a larger operation in Anderson County and Shenandoah County, Virginia

The Anderson Independent Mail is reporting that a Mauldin resident was among those arrested a part of a raid by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms yesterday.

According to the Mail, the ATF made the arrest in relation to a ring stretching from the Upstate to Western Virginia that sold $20 million in untaxed cigarettes to undercover agents. The Mauldin arrest occurred in the Planters Row subdivision. Read more here.

The were not involved in the arrests. Police Chief Bryan Turner said the departmnt was not aware of the action until after it had occurred, and that the ATF is not required to alert local law enforcement in cases such as this.
