Bad Popes Close Out Free Concert Series

Events will resume once improvements are completed

Last Friday the free concert series at the Mauldin Cultural Center came to a temporary close with a performance by the rock band The Bad Popes.

The serious is on hiatus as the Cultural Center is about to undergo a facelift of sorts. The facility will be getting significant landscaping work done in the next month or so.

According to City Administrator Trey Eubanks, the contracts for the work have already been signed, and the project will begin once the permit is received from the state, which is expected to occur by the end of July.

According to the Cultural Center’s Executive Director George McLeer, attendance was steady for each of the four free concerts, averaging about 55 persons per performance, which is a similar number to what Downtown Alive in Greenville drew when it began. This was the first year of the outdoor concerts in Mauldin.

Each of the four acts in the series covered a different genre of music. The opener, the Keith Davis Trio was a jazz act, which was then followed by singer-songwriter Sam Anderson, who was succeeded by Last Road Bluegrass.

Work should be completed on the Cultural Center just in time for fall. If weather permits, the outdoor performances would resume.
