BI-LO Lays Off 130 Mauldin Employees

Planned job cuts here are part of the grocery chain's corporate relocation to Jacksonville, Fla.

BI-LO is laying off 130 workers at its Mauldin headquarters over the next few weeks as the grocery chain continues its corporate relocation to Jacksonville, Fla.

Affected employees have been notified, and Bi-Lo will offer severance pay, a company spokesman told GSA Business. Employees could apply for any openings in Florida. Separations will begin April 17, the paper reported.

The planned job cuts at the Mauldin headquarters, located off Laurens Road, are part of a transition to new headquarters in Jacksonville, home to Winn-Dixie, which BI-LO acquired in Dec. 2011.

Combined, the grocery chains operate nearly 690 grocery stores and employ 63,000 people in eight states.

Further details of the layoffs were not disclosed, the paper reported, leaving it unclear what jobs are affected and how many positions would remain.

However, the chain does plan to maintain a presence in Mauldin. reportedly will remain in Mauldin along with a team serving the store brand. A call center serving both BI-LO and Winn Dixie also remains.

According to the company spokesman, about 500 people worked at BI-LO before the $560 million Winn-Dixie acquisition.
