Coroner: Dead Teen Couple Had Volatile Relationship

Teens died in apparent murder-suicide Wednesday night, leaving behind a baby daughter.

Friends and family of a teen couple that died in a murder-suicide Wednesday say the pair had a turbulent past, Greenville County deputy coroner Barry Wright said.

Wright told WYFF that the suspected shooter, 19-year-old Erith Carillo, had a case pending in court on a charge of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. Carillo had been accused of pointing a gun at Mary Guthrie and telling her he was going to kill her, Wright said.

Authorities said they believe Carillo shot Guthrie in the head Wednesday night at their apartment on Gilbert Court about four miles west of Mauldin before turning the gun on himself following a suspected fight between the two.

The couple's baby daughter, who was inside the home at the time of the shootings, has been placed in the care of family members, Greenville County Sheriff's deputy Jonathan Smith said.
