Deputies Involved in Shooting in Conestee, One Man Injured

Greenville County Sheriff's deputies had responded to loud music, when one man retrieved a gun from his vehicle. Deputies asked the man to put the gun down, but he did not comply.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division will investigate a shooting involving two deputies just after midnight in Greenville County that left one man injured.

According a news release, Greenville County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home at 712 6th St., Conestee, after a complaint of loud music in the area.

Deputies said they arrived at the home within 10 minutes and located a large crowd of people gathered near a bonfire. While deputies were speaking to people attending the party about the complaint, a 33-year-old man retrieved a gun from a vehicle, according to a press release. Deputies ordered the man to drop the gun multiple times, but he did not comply.

The man turned toward the deputies several times with the gun, putting their lives in danger, according to the report. The deputies fired several shots striking the man in the abdomen.

The man was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital and is expected to survive.

The two deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation by the Sheriff's Office Office of Professional Standards and SLED according to the Sheriff's Office.
