Deputies: Piano Teacher Charged in Sex Crime

Was also employed Springbrook Behavioral Health in Travelers Rest.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office arrested an Easley resident on Wednesday and charged him with Criminal Sexual Conduct with a minor (victim 11 to 14 years of age) – 2nd degree.

Roman Isaac Harkins who was a member of New Life Baptist Church and active in the music ministry was taken to the Greenville County Detention Center, where he posted a $30,000 bond and was released at approximately 2 p.m.

Harkins gave piano lessons at the church, located at 2690 W. Blue Ridge Drive, which is where the incident allegedly took place. Harkins is accused of engaging in intercourse with one of his students, who was 13 at the time of the alleged incident.

It is unknown at this time if there are additional victims. Springbrook Behavioral Health, a mental health facility for children, adolescents and adults in Travelers Rest, confirmed that Harkins worked there, but said they had not yet been informed of his arrest. 

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about any additional assaults or who may be a victim of an assault to call 271-5210 or Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
