Expanded Education Program Planned at Conestee Nature Park

The 400-acre park bordering Mauldin continues to grow in popularity.

Lake Conestee Nature Park will be offering expanded environmental education programming for school-age children thanks to a recent $40,000 grant.

The park will add a program tailored to meet state standards for students in fourth grade and middle school, Gina Varat, the Conestee Foundation’s education director, told The Greenville News.

The expanded programming at the increasingly popular park bordering Mauldin comes from a $40,000 grant from 3M.

The program adds upon a series of 40 learning stations being built throughout the park, which recently opened two new trails and added approximately two miles to its trail system, which now spans about 10 miles at the 400-acre park, the newspaper noted.

The new program comes amid growing use at the park, among children and adults alike.

“Here we are with all of these natural spaces that we want them to come and use it as part of their outdoor classroom," Varat told the paper.
