Former Greenville Co. Schools Superintendent Rudolph Gordon Passes Away

Succumbs after a battle with cancer

The Greenville County School System announced the passing of former district superintendent Dr. Rudolph Gordon in the following e-mail to district employees on Thursday:

Dr. Gordon was selected district superintendent of The School District of Greenville County in April 1996, becoming the district's seventh superintendent since consolidation in 1951.  Dr. Gordon, a native of Kingstree, South Carolina, began his 40-year career in 1959 as a mathematics teacher at Bryson High School in Fountain Inn and served as principal of Beck Middle School and J. L. Mann High School.  He later served as assistant area superintendent of the Southwest and Northeast Areas and as associate superintendent for administration.  Dr. Gordon was honored by the School Board in August, 2008, when Rudolph G. Gordon Elementary School opened in Simpsonville.
