Girls Win, Boys Lose Basketball Season Opener

They split against Eastside

Mauldin High's girls basketball team, ranked 6th in the state, got its season off to fine start on Tuesday night with a 58-39 win over Eastside in Taylors. The Lady Mavs clinched the win by outscoring the Eagles 31-5 in the second quarter. Morgan Alexander led three players in double digits for Mauldin with 18 points. Tori Whittenberg and Kentra Washington eavh had 15 points, with Whittenberg knocking home three 3-point shots.

Mauldin's boys team didn't fare as well, falling to a strong Eastside team 69-34. The Mavericks fell behind 13-1 and never got untracked offensively, trailing 28-11 at halftime. The scoring tandem of Keil Sherman and Davarius McGowens combined for 31 points for the Eagles. Senior Devon Rice led Mauldin with 11.

The teams open their home season on Friday night.
