Greenville County Schools Announce Open House Dates for Magnet Academies

Starting in mid-October each magnet academy in Greenville County will hold an Open House for students and their families to learn about each school’s magnet focus as well as the application procedures for magnet schools.

The application period for the 2012-2013 school year begins at noon on Nov. 1 and continues through noon on Dec. 1. Students who apply in the first application have a better chance of being accepted than those who apply in later rounds. Students who are qualified and already have sibling at a magnet school are given priority. After that, the highest scores are accepted until all the slots are filled. If there are more qualified applicants than slots, a lottery is used.

Applications are based on the following factors: attendance, disci­pline, GPA (student interview in Grades K-5, 1, 2), and a student essay.
