Lady Mavs Season Ends at 20-5

Could not make up an early deficit

The best Mauldin girls basketball season in recent memory came to an end on Tuesday night in Piedmont with a 48-41 loss to Wren.

The Lady Mavericks fell behind 20-10 in the first quarter and clawed back to cut the lead to five, 27-22, at halftime.

Mauldin was able to pull even with the Hurricanes on three different occasions, including late in the final period when a Tori Whittenberg three-point shot and a three-point play by Morgan Alexander knotted the score at 39.

But Wren, , hit its free throws in the final minutes to pull back in front. The Lady Mavs' attempt at a late rally was thwarted by the same stingy Wren zone that never allowed Mauldin to get in a shooting rhythm.

Sophomore Kentra Washington led the scoring with 13 points while seniors Tori Whittenberg and Morgan Alexander closed out their outstanding careers with 10 points apiece.
