A visit from Phyllis Henderson and an update on recent volunteer efforts

Representative Phyllis Henderson Visits Langston – was honored to have South Carolina State Representative Phyllis Henderson visit the 6th grade leadership classes at Langston Charter Middle School on Thursday, November 3 to speak about how to be a good leader and the leadership experiences she has had in her illustrious career.
Langston Students Initiate and Organize Drives to Help Those in Need
Celebrate the Child Toy Drive - Langston 6th grader, Josie Hollingsworth, and 7th grader, Isaac Lipe are collecting new toys for children ages birth – 12 years old and valued at $5 - $15 to brighten the lives of children in need. Collection tubs will be located in buildings A and B until November 18.

Coat Drive – Langston 8th grader, Jenna Lannuier, is collecting coats for needy children at Berea Elementary School. Please drop off new or used coats, hoodies, or sweaters, sizes 5 – 12 in the boxes in the front of the school. Items will be collected until November 11.
Serve Fest Food Drive– Langston 6th grader, Tristan Isaac, is collecting food to be donated to needy families for Thanksgiving through local project “Serve Fest.” Suggested donations include: chicken & rice soup, spaghetti noodles, cream of chicken soup, spaghetti sauce, saltine crackers, and bags of rice. Serve Fest containers are located at the front office and at the morning drop off line. Donations will be accepted until November 18 and items will be delivered to families on November 19.

Operation Christmas Child… Langston students are collecting items to send to needy children around the world through Operation Christmas Child. We are accepting donations of toys, school supplies, hygiene items, hard candy, gum, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, watches, toy jewelry, and flashlights small enough to fit in a shoe box. We cannot accept used items, toy weapons, chocolate or food, liquids, lotions, vitamins or medications, breakable items. We also need lots of shoe boxes and cash to ship them ($7.00 per box). Please turn in all items by November 11th.
Butterfly Garden…The Langston Butterfly Garden is in need of petunias, willows, passion vine and a “Shoal Creek “ vitex. Please contact Richelle Otovic at richelle_otovic@hotmail.com to donate these needed items.
Youth in Government Conference – Langston students involved in Youth in Government will be attending their yearly conference in Columbia, November 17 – 19.
Charter School Speaker Available - Lisa Stevens, Langston Charter Middle School Board Chairman, is available to speak to civic and community groups about charter schools and the success that Langston has been able to give Greenville County students through the charter school model.
