Langston Charter Middle School Holds Non-Profit Fair

Second annual event introduces students to community service

On Monday the student body of learned about 27 different non-profit groups from throughout the Upstate. Agencies that visited ranged from those who assist pets, to those who help seniors, to those that promote fair trade.

Kelly Weekes, Director of Campus Affairs at Langston, said the event is designed to expose Langston's 450-plus students to the non-profit universe. Students at Langston have a community service requirement as part of the curriculum. "One of the things that can be difficult with children in this age group is to help them move out of their comfort zone," Weekes said. "And bringing the agencies here makes that a lot easier."

The students at Langston, who are in grades 6-8, will have a community service day later this year and then visit those non-profits in which they have an interest for a day of volunteering.
