Mauldin Open Air Market Will State Case on Monday at GPATS Hearing

Joel Ann Chandler will charter a bus for supporters

The next phase of the will take place on Monday instead of on January 23 as originally planned. She will state her case to the GPATS (Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study) Board during a hearing in Easley.

Chandler h to prevent her property from being altered by a road-widening project on East Butler Road. She has met with officials from SCDOT as well as elected representatives in an attempt to keep the bulldozers at bay.

Chandler told Patch that SCDOT had tendered a compensation offer in exchange for the portion of her parking lot that would be lost by the addition of turn lane on Corn Road. But she refused it out of hand.

"They want to shut me down here and then buy me out across the street and I'm not going to let them," Chandler said, referring to 35 acres of land she owns that is catacorner to the Farmers Market.

Chandler has enlisted plenty of support in her fight. She's gathered 6,500 signatures and is chartering a 57-seat bus to the hearing on Monday. The bus will leave the farmers market at 10 a.m.
