Mauldin Police Department Awarded Grant

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety has awarded the Mauldin Police Department a grant in the amount of $129,449. The money will allow the department to continue alcohol countermeasures that led to a 42.8 percent reduction in injuries as a result of DUI collisions during 2010.

The money will allow for a third year of monthly public safety checkpoints and educational presentations to community groups. Training will also be provided to city police officers.

Chief Bryan Turner said, “The grant will help us to balance the needs of keeping our roadways safe for everyone and it will allow the City of Mauldin to maintain the quality of life that our citizens have grown accustomed to over the years.”

Mayor Don Godbey said, “We are pleased to continue our collaboration with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety in the mission to reduce the incidents and severity of traffic crashes in our state.”

The funds are for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
