Mauldin Police Investigate Alleged Assault of Teen Girl

Girl and her parents allege strange man made sexual advances against the 13-year-old.

Mauldin Police are investigating an alleged assault against a teen girl who alleges that a strange man made unwanted sexual advances, an incident report stated.

The mother of the girl told police that her 13-year-old daughter had gone to the business center at the Bell Brookfield apartment complex to use the Internet last week when a man inside the center allegedly touched her inappropriately, the report stated.

When the girl entered the business center, she found the man inside the building with two other women who seemed friendly. When the two women left, the man reportedly stayed behind and got into an allegedly sexually tinged conversation with a woman using the computer video-chat program, Skype.

Once he got off the call, the man then allegedly engaged the girl in conversation that turned sexual, according to the report.

The girl said the man asked her if she talked to older men and did she think he was handsome. The girl reportedly turned away, but then the man asked her to sit in his lap. When the girl refused, the man allegedly grabbed her and forced onto his lap.

With her back to him on the chair, the man then allegedly used one of his arms to hold her arms, and used his other other arm to stroke the inner and outer portion of her right thigh, the report said.

The man also attempted to kiss the girl, who said she then panicked, stood up and asked to leave, which the man reportedly let her do.

Police were able to find the man later at the apartment complex and questioned him. The unidentified man said he was from Atlanta and visiting his girlfriend at the complex, which was confirmed by the girlfriend and her roommate.

The man said he got into a conversation with the girl after she had overheard him talk about promoting his cousin's musical group to a woman on Skype. The man said the two talked innocently for awhile and they exchanged Facebook information so she could learn more about his music, before eventually leaving when his girlfriend returned.

The man stated he was returning to Atlanta over the weekend. So far no arrests have been made, but the case remains under investigation.
