Mauldin Sports Report - Girls Tennis Wins; Sawyer Willingham Shines
Girls capture opening tournament while triathlete closes 2011 season in fine fashion
The Mauldin High Girls Tennis team got its 2011 season off to a strong start by taking the team championship on Saturday at the Kroc Center Girls Invitational on Saturday.
Also, triathlete and Mauldin sophomore Sawyer Willingham, , finished third overall (out of nearly 1,000 competitors of all ages) at the Peachtree City Triathlon. Sawyer’s time of 1:00:28 was less than a minute behind the winner and three minutes clear of the next competitor in his age group. The event was the last on Sawyer’s triathlon schedule and he’ll be focusing his considerable energies on Mauldin High’s Cross Country season.

The girls tennis team bested seven other teams with a total of 39 points. Junior Ansley Speaks, who won the Palmetto Championships earlier this summer, led the charge by winning at No. 1 Singles.
Ansley led a sweep of the top four singles for the Mavs. Haley Elliot won at No. 2, Sydney Patton won at No.3 and Lexi Stewart won at No. 4. Katelyn Hegarty earned third place at No. 5.

The defending state champions also won both doubles with Alex Patton and Hayley Behal winning at No. 1 and Madeline Weih and Taylor Pilgrim winning at No. 2.
