In January, Mauldin Patch wrote about a for . Both Morgan Alexander and Tori Whittenberg scored over 1,000 points in their illustrious careers. They both helped the Lady Mavericks girls’ basketball team to new heights this year, spending much of 2011-2012 ranked in the state’s Top 10. They also happened to be the very best of friends. They’ve played together for 13 years. But as they embarked on their college careers, there was no assurance that streak would continue.
Fortunately, it will. Both girls have given a verbal commitment to continue their basketball careers at Erskine College in Due West, which is about an hour south of Mauldin.
The players were recruited by other colleges, but Erskine was the only school to recruit them both.

Lady Mavs Head Coach Andrea Bell thinks it’s a win for everyone involved. “They’re going to make Erskine College very happy.”
“I have never seen two players who play so well together,” Bell said. “Those two can find each other on the court better than any pair I’ve seen.”

Bell expects both Alexander and Whittenberg to continue at their current positions at the next level, with the possibility of expanding their games. For Whittenberg, that’s as an off guard or two-guard. “The college game is quicker,” Bell said. “Tori might be able to ease into the point guard spot, but she’s a pure two right now.”
Bell thinks Alexander can add to her skills as a forward or four spot.” I wouldn’t be surprise if she eased into a three.” Bell said. “You never really saw her step outside in high school because she never need to.”
Regardless of where they had chosen to attend college, Bell is confident Alexander and Whittenberg would do well. “They’re players and they can play up to any level. But, they’re better together than they are apart. They are a great pair and they’re great for each other.”
Alexander and Whittenberg are expected to make the commitment official at a signing ceremony next month.
