New Mauldin Fire Headquarters Accounts For Future Growth

Newly released renderings show the design of a planned $7.5 million Mauldin Fire Department headquarters that officials say will strengthen service in a quickly growing section of the city.

The graphics show a more than 18,000-square-foot, brick facility with three truck bays on Plant Street off West Butler Road.

Ken Newell of Stewart Cooper Newell Architects presented the designs Feb. 7 to the Mauldin Public Safety Committee.

Cloverleaf Construction will build the new structure on West Butler Road between the Gleneagle Apartments complex and Midgard Self Storage near Sunset Park. It will replace the current fire headquarters, a smaller, two-bay facility that sits about one mile to the east next to Mauldin City Hall.

Mauldin Fire Chief Brian McHone said the existing headquarters services a large western portion of the city and the new location will better position the fire department to cover that area. That part of the city is experiencing rapid residential development, particularly along Fork Shoals and Ashmore Bridge roads. McHone said the planned site for the new headquarters will strengthen fire protection there to meet the anticipated uptick in need.
