Water fun for the kids and football were the order of the day

With Irene hundreds of miles away and the only hint of her a light breeze, yesterday was the perfect day for say, a Church Block Party and a Football Jamboree.

Norman Black, took care of the Block Party side of things. Black is the pastor at the Mauldin Church of God, which held its annual block party. Black said the church has been holding the festival for the last several years for its congregation and neighboring children. Party-goers young and old enjoyed face-painting, water slides and playing in the bouncing castle.

Meanwhile, the Mauldin Recreation Department held its annual football jamboree. Hundreds of players took part and after they were done competing on the field, many of them cooled off on one of four water slides at the Mauldin Miracle League.
