The owner of the Mauldin Open Air Market, Joel Ann Chandler, has made little secret of her distrust of SCDOT. For the last several months for a way to minimize the impact a road widening project will have on her business. Things haven't been going well from Chandler's perspective. She's spoken to elected officials, appeared at city meetings and met with SCDOT.
The most recent development would require a six-foot embankment to be leveled in order to create a new entrance to her business. That did not go over well with Chandler.
And she's said as much on a sign outside her business.

"I was taught to apologize if I was wrong. But I'm not wrong about this," Chandler said. "(SCDOT) don't want to compromise."
