Police: Broom-Wielding Woman, Teen Hurt in Fracas
Alleged malicious prank against woman's elderly mother turns into a nasty fight.

Mauldin Police said a broom-wielding woman and a teen were hurt in a fracas earlier this week after the woman accused the teen of trying to harm her elderly mother, a police report said.
The heavily reacted report stated that a 38-year-old Mauldin woman confronted a 15-year-old boy alleging that he had been putting soap oil used for cleaning wood floors into her mother's drinks.
When the profanity-spewing youth attempted to get away from the woman, she followed him and he reportedly pushed her into the roadway of their neighborhood. That prompted the woman, who said she carries a broom to discipline neighborhood children, to strike him in the back with the broom, the report said.
The youth then began fighting back, allegedly punching the woman in the face, while she continued to strike him with the broom in the head and face, the report said.
The broom, found at the scene by police, "was very bent up," the report stated.
The fight was eventually broken up by the boy's mother, who said she accidentally hit him in the process, busting his lip and requiring stitches. The woman involved in the fight also received a bloody lip in the melee, causing EMS to be called to the scene.
The boy's mother eventually decided not to press charges. The woman also declined to press assault charges, but said she might want to file attempted murder charges, the report said. So far, no such charges have been filed.
As for the incident that caused the fracas, two young children in the house where the soap-oil was allegedly used to spike drinks said the concoction wasn't intended for their grandmother, but instead was supposed to be a joke on their sister, the report said.
