Do you know where your lawnmower is?
As the Spring growing season kicks into high gear, there have been a number of lawnmower thefts here in the Upstate, including Mauldin.
A 90-year-old homeowner on Hyde Circle was victimized earlier this week when her $600 Troybilt push mower and the head off her Weed-eater were stolen from the property, a Mauldin Police incident report said.
The woman's grandson said the mower had been stored in a shed, but a thief or thieves entered it, stole the mower and Weed-Eater head, and ransacked the shed. The headless Weed-Eater was found lying in the yard.
Even businesses with theft-prevention devices haven't been immune from mower bandits.
The Tractor Supply store at 206 New Neely Ferry Road was recently victimized when a thief entered the property after hours and drove off with a $2,000 Cub Cadet riding mower in the back of his truck, a police report said.
The unidentified thief, caught on surveillance video, cut an alarm cable securing the mower, placed the mower in the back of his dark-colored Ford 150 Custom pickup and simply drove off, the report said.
Mauldin Police units responding to the alarm began searching the major roads around the store, but the bandit managed to escape, the report said.
