Police: Man Charged with Disorderly Conduct After Fight with Girlfriend

Alcohol-fueled argument ends in a trip to jail for Inman man, according to Mauldin Police.

An Inman man faces a disorderly conduct after an alcohol-fueled argument with his girlfriend turned into a public spectacle, a Mauldin Police report said.

Andrell Gist, 40, was arrested Tuesday night after a spat with his girlfriend at Gleneagle Apartments on West Butler Road, the report said. The victim said Gist, whom she had been seeing for four months, became angry when they began fighting after both were drinking and was told she wanted to end the relationship, the report said.

Gist was told to leave the victim's apartment but instead is accused of pushing the victim to the ground and refusing to vacate, the report said.

When police arrived, officers noticed that Gist seemed to have been drinking heavily, as his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet, the report said. Gist, however, said he never laid hands on the victim and did not threaten her.

When told that the woman did not wish to press charges and that he needed to call for a ride home, Gist allegedly became "irate," the report said. While he was waiting for his mother to respond to his call, Gist allegedly constantly raised his voice, used profanity at the officers, "and behaved in a boisterous manner," the repirt stated.

Once his mother arrived, the report said, Gist stepped out into the common hallway and began to scream and yell obscenities, drawing a crowd of onlookers, the report said. Officers then tried to arrest him, but he resisted, requiring two other officers to step in and help subdue him, but not before he continued to resist and jerk his head toward one officer "in a threatening manner," the report said.

After finally cuffing the suspect, he was transported to the county detention center on the disorderly conduct charge and later released.
