Police: Mother, Daughter Charged in Salvation Army Thefts

Pair charged with petit larceny.

Mauldin Police allege that a 75-year-old Simpsonville woman and her 44-year-old daughter attempted to steal items being donated to the Salvation Army on South Main Street, a report said.

After being called to the scene, police found the women leaving the property in a red Jeep when they pulled in, the report said. The daughter said they were there to donate items and were leaving because she had "wet herself" and needed to find a restroom, the report said. Asked why she wet herself, the woman she and her mother got "tickled" by something and she had wet herself laughing, the report said.

The two women weren't laughing for long.

Two witnesses said they saw the women putting items dropped off for donation into their Jeep, the report said. The women denied taking anything and consented to a search of the vehicle which revealed numerous items, the report said. After further questioning, the two women ultimately admitted to taking the items, which amounted to a school picture scrapbook, a half dozen CDs, a game, and some toy cars worth a total of $20, the report said.

The women were each issued criminal citations for petit larceny, the report said.
