Police: Youths Charged with Burglary, Electricity Theft

Juveniles busted at alleged party pad in vacant Mauldin townhome.

A group of juveniles are facing charges after they allegedly broke in and used a vacant townhouse as a party location, according to a Mauldin Police report.

The nine youths, ranging in age from 15 to 18, were arrested and jailed Thursday on charges of second-degree burglary and theft of electricity after being tipped off by a mother of one of the juveniles, the report said.

The mother reportedly pulled up to a Mauldin Police officer while on traffic patrol and told the officer that her 15-year-old son had not returned home the previous night for his curfew, the report said.

The mother said her son had run away before and might possibly be at a vacant townhouse on Courtfield Place in Carlton Village, the report said, and requested police go locate him.

The mother alleged that her son and others were accessing the vacant residence through a side window and using it as a party location, the report said.

After being arrested at the scene on the burglary charges, the youths also were charged with stealing an estimated $100 in electricity at the residence, the report said.
