Political Roundup - Debt Talks Dominate Discussion; Haley Talks Jobs

In concert with our ongoing coverage of the Republican Presidential Primaries, each Monday Mauldin Patch will take a look back at the last week of news for South Carolina's governor (Nikki Haley) its senators (Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint), its governor (Nikki Haley) and its congressman, Trey Gowdy who represents South Carolina's 4th district, of which Mauldin is part.

Haley

On Thursday, Governor Haley spoke at the new facility of BeGreen Packaging in Ridgeland.

On Friday, Governor Haley was at the BMW facilities in Greer, where she took the opportunity to boast of her jobs-creation program and blast the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) relative to its role in the Boeing plant in Charleston. to talk to the governor.

Graham

DeMint

Senator DeMint announced plans to host the Palmetto Freedom Forum during the Labor Day weekend. All Republican candidates for president are invited and expected to attend and discuss how they would handle the country’s economic challenges.

On Wednesday, Senator DeMint appeared on CBS News and said some Republicans in Congress were working on an alternative to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s debt reduction plan.

Senator DeMint continued to promote the Cut, Cap and Balance pledge, which added several more signatories. One of the signatories was not presidential candidate Jon Huntsman, who said, “.”

On Sunday, Senator DeMint appeared on Meet the Press to discuss the ongoing debt negotiations.

Gowdy

On Tuesday, Congressman Gowdy released a statement urging President Obama to reform Medicare.
